Kingdom Women In Business Planning Second Annual Conference

Nassau, The Bahamas….Women from the Bahamas, North America and several island nations in the region will convene at the historic British Colonial Hilton hotel next month for the 2nd Annual Kingdom Women in Business Conference (KWIB).

Last year, the conference started off with just over 12 women including founder Melisa Hall, patron Dr. Ada Thompson and noted women like former Senator Tanya McCartney. The ladies organized a major event which saw scores of Bahamian women from various walks of life and they officially launched the organization.

“God has truly brought us from a mighty long way,” said Mrs. Hall. “What started off as a simple idea for Bahamian businesswomen to come together has turned into a highly anticipated international event that has garnered us a few sponsors that we never thought would join. More importantly, Bahamian women come and network and launch, in some cases relaunch their lives.”

Mrs. Hall speaks proudly of some of the success stories that resulted since women joined KWIB. “We’ve had someone start a magazine, another lady wrote and published the first of several books, someone else started a television show, another lady fulfilled a life long dream to own her own company and a shy woman has turned into a much sought after motivational speaker,” she said. “This is just part of the reason why it is essential for us women to come together, share our talents and expertise and help each other out. Can you imagine the results we’ll have if we all shared instead of keeping our success a secret? Because we’d be helping each other, we’d be benefitting great rewards.”

Since launching the organization’s website www.kingdomwomeninbusiness.org and Facebook page Mrs. Hall said there has been a lot of questions from North America and the Caribbean. “With technology, our world has no borders and as a result women have been wanting to come to the event as well as sign up to become members,” said Mrs. Hall. “Our KWIB members are now thrust into the spotlight as Bahamian ambassadors when these ladies arrive and they have opportunities to then continue friendships. Last year, one member who was just launching her Public Relations firm was able to use a member she met through KWIB to get connected to a national American magazine and to several others throughout the Caribbean. So when you have such opportunities, take advantage of them.”

Early registration for the second annual conference is already in progress. For more information call 242-328-6050.

Bahamian Singer’s Song For Obama Gains Popularity As Inauguration Nears

Nassau, The Bahamas… If Bahama for Obama fever was an actual disease, Adrianna Munnings might just be the first Bahamian to be listed in critical condition. The budding songstress who is working on her debut album has released her second single and first potential international hit Let Freedom Reign.
The song, which is dedicated to President-elect Barack Obama, has been holding strong on several major radio stations and is gaining popularity on the web as his Presidential Inauguration nears.
“I’m so blessed to be a part of this cyber-generation,” says Munnings. “In the old days, I would never be able to get this song out so quickly but thanks to the power of the internet and people’s interest in anything Obama, I have been receiving quite a few comments. As for my video, it’s the first time I’ve ever done one so I hope to extend that realm as I continue to pursue my musical endeavors.”
Munnings added that she just did the song as her show of support for the first African-American President of the United States of America during the election in fall 2008.
“Originally, it was something that I just sang in the bathroom, but when you have people eavesdropping and encouraging you, you can’t sit on your talent,” she noted. “It’s very simple and sort of like a soundtrack to what we are living today by watching the historic moves none of us thought would be possible in our lifetimes. I don’t think of the song as spectacular but it’s just my small tribute to perhaps one of the greatest men in modern history.”

Bestselling Grand Bahamian Author To Unveil Sophomore Book On Inter-Island Tour

Nassau, The Bahamas…What do you do when your debut book has made the bestseller list in several countries and earned you an international Christian author nomination in just one year? You can either milk it for all it’s worth or do what Margaret C. Mullings is doing by giving her hungry readers a second helping of her book Seeds of Hope.
“All I can say is to God be the glory, because He truly is doing a great thing,” beams the author. “It’s been a whirlwind experience in the literary world and I am just blessed that I was chosen to pen these words on encouragement, inspiration and of course, hope. When you consider the timing with so many rifts in the family structure and of course the economic crisis, you know that God planned for this to happen when it did.”
In less than a year, the soft spoken mom and pastor’s wife has take the cyber world by storm with over 600,000 web hits and a heavy presence on several major websites including Amazon.com’s German, United Kingdom, American, Canadian and Japanese affiliates.
Having already held a book signing in Grand Bahama, she’ll be making a quick stop in Eleuthera before heading to New Providence to unveil Seeds of Hope Volume II. The signings will be held this Saturday at the Christian Bookstore in the Mall at Marathon from 10a.m to 2p.m and the second will be held at Logos Bookstore, Harbour Bay from 3p.m to 6p.m.
“This is truly an incredible journey for me,” Mullings added. “I am prepared. Preparation is truly one of the key ingredients. We always say many are called but few are chosen but I think it’s the response you give when you are called that makes the difference.”
